AI boom broadens but war, inflation, and chip glut hit markets

  • AI demand spreads beyond chips AI spending widened into networking, power, servers, and cloud. Nvidia posted record $96.2B revenue, Microsoft added $450B in value, and big OpenAI/Anthropic raises locked in future demand.

Shows the main positive force that lifted parts of the market.

  • US-Iran war closes Strait of Hormuz, oil spikes The war shut the Strait of Hormuz, pushing Brent crude above $100 and gasoline past $4/gallon. That squeezed consumers and added to inflation worries.

A major negative shock that hurt consumer spending and market sentiment.

  • Chip stocks sell off on oversupply and China competition Chip stocks fell 23.5% as oversupply and Chinese competition raised doubts about the AI trade's staying power, even as other AI areas grew.

Highlights a key risk that dragged down a major market segment.

  • Fed hikes rates, yields hit 5% The Fed, led by Warsh, raised rates again due to persistent inflation. Treasury yields reached 5%, pressuring stock valuations, especially for growth companies.

Monetary policy tightening was a major headwind for the whole market.

AI spending broadens, but Fed hikes and $100 oil squeeze consumers

  • AI demand broadens to memory and custom chips Micron's quarterly revenue jumped 4.8x to $54.2B with 87% gross margin, and it signed 26 customer agreements covering over 35% of revenue through 2030. Anthropic's S-1 revealed $518B in compute commitments to Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Broadcom, locking in years of demand for chips and cloud services.

Shows the AI profit engine widening beyond Nvidia, a key force lifting US tech stocks and the S&P 500.

  • Nvidia expands buyback and AI financing platform Nvidia approved a record $150B buyback expansion, lifting remaining authorization to $235B, and is mobilizing over $500B of third-party capital for AI infrastructure with partners like BlackRock and Goldman Sachs. Analysts raised fair value to $327.70 on strong AI demand, though some flagged off-balance-sheet risk.

Nvidia is about 8% of the S&P 500, so its buyback and financing moves directly support the index and AI investment.

Coca-Cola Outpaces PepsiCo as Wall Street Picks Its Favorite Soda Stock

Wall Street has clearly chosen Coca-Cola over PepsiCo as its favorite beverage stock this year. Coca-Cola stock has ripped 23% higher this year, making it the eighth-best performer on the Dow, while PepsiCo shares have tanked by 13% and now hover near a 52-week low. PepsiCo's earnings report on Thursday is a critical one, with the company promising stronger snacking results after price cuts and that its aggressive cost cuts will show up in profits. Several Wall Street shops, including Evercore ISI and JPMorgan, have cut their profit estimates for PepsiCo ahead of the results, as higher inflation stands to pressure any cost savings. Evercore ISI analyst Robert Ottenstein said investors are concerned by share losses in North America Beverages, with brand Pepsi flat over the third quarter versus brand Coke up 7%, and lackluster trends in PepsiCo Foods North America.
PEP · Competition · Negative PepsiCo faces share losses in North America Beverages and lackluster Foods trends, with analysts cutting profit estimates ahead of earnings.
KO · Competition · Positive Coca-Cola is Wall Street's favored soda stock, with brand Coke up 7% while Pepsi brand is flat, signaling share gains over PepsiCo.

Hyperliquid Data Hits Bloomberg Terminal as CFTC Petition Looms

Bloomberg Terminal now streams Hyperliquid data under the ticker WSL HYPE, giving 24/7 visibility into more than 100 contracts from BTC and Nvidia to the S&P 500, Brent crude, gold, and EUR/USD, though Bloomberg spokesperson Michael McDonough confirmed the integration offers no execution capability. On October 3, 2026, Hyperliquid distributed $14.6 million in USDC via its AQAv2 mechanism, drawn from the $5 billion to $6.74 billion in USDC reserves held by the protocol, with roughly $13.1 million routed to the Hyperliquid Assistance Fund, which holds about 45 million HYPE tokens acquired for approximately $1.1 billion. Combined with the roughly 97% of net protocol fees directed to the Assistance Fund, annual buyback capacity exceeds $900 million, a scale four to five times higher than the Ethereum EIP-1559 burn rate or the BNB burn program, with HYPE trading at $92.81 and a $23.26 billion market capitalization. On August 26, 2026, Hyperliquid filed a petition with the CFTC under docket CFTC-2026-1388-0121 seeking approval for regulated U.S. energy perpetual contracts including WTI crude, Brent crude, and Henry Hub natural gas, drawing opposition from CME Group and ICE. The protocol's on-chain perpetual futures market share has fallen from approximately 70% in early 2026 to between 30% and 35% as rivals Aster, EdgeX, and Lighter gain ground, while reported annualized revenue ranges from about $193 million per CoinDesk to $710.81 million per DefiLlama and near $880 million per CFBenchmarks.

OKX and NYSE Parent ICE Joint Venture Files for 24/7 Tokenized US Stock Trading

A 50/50 joint venture between OKX and ICE, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, has filed to launch 24/7 tokenized US stock trading under the SEC's proposed five-year innovation exemption, the first major attempt by anyone to use that exemption. The initial list will have 63 stocks, including Strategy, Apple, Nvidia, Coinbase, Robinhood, Circle and major banks. Trading would run continuously, 24/7 365, through Uniswap liquidity pools on OKX's X layer and in USDC, USDG and USDT pairs, with users holding assets in self-custodial wallets subject to identity verification, AML and KYC. Unlike Robinhood-style representations, the tokens must be backed one for one by an actual share held through a registered broker dealer, and investors would receive dividends and voting rights just like on any stock. Companies have 30 days to object to having their stock tokenized.

TSMC stock hits all-time high after Elon Musk confirms early Terafab talks

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company shares touched intraday all-time highs on Monday after Elon Musk confirmed early-stage talks with the chipmaker about a potential collaboration on his Terafab semiconductor initiative. Musk responded on X over the weekend to a newsletter from tech journalist Tim Culpan, who wrote that TSMC is exploring ways to work with Terafab to help the startup chipmaker run its new semiconductor factories in Texas, saying, "Just discussions, but something may come of it." Terafab is Musk's plan to build a giant semiconductor factory to serve Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. US chip maker Intel, which joined Terafab back in April, was down roughly 2%. TSMC is the world's largest foundry, and its business has boomed on demand for semiconductors used in artificial intelligence, with the stock up about 60% year to date as the company expands in the US to manufacture chips for clients including Apple, Nvidia, and AMD.

Venture Global Targets 500-518 LNG Cargoes in 2026 as Global Demand Firms

Venture Global expects to export 500 to 518 LNG cargoes in 2026, with 91% of expected volumes already contracted, as the company positions itself to benefit from rising global demand for liquefied natural gas. The company said LNG imports into China, Japan and India have recovered despite elevated prices, while tighter European inventories are expected to support seasonal demand. Plaquemines Phase I is targeted to reach commercial operation date in the fourth quarter, while CP2 is on schedule for first LNG in the second half of 2027. U.S. LNG exports are expected to rise from 15.1 billion cubic feet per day in 2025 to 17.4 Bcf/d in 2026 and 18.6 Bcf/d in 2027, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Venture Global shares have declined 5.9% over the past year against the industry's 13.3% growth, and the stock trades at a trailing 12-month enterprise-value-to-EBITDA of 9.98X versus the broader industry average of 10.65X.

Qualcomm and Arm open new trial over chip testing tools

Qualcomm and Arm Holdings began a new trial on Monday, with Qualcomm claiming Arm withheld chip testing tools required under their contract. Qualcomm also alleges Arm leaked information to the media about its 2024 threat to cancel a critical license agreement, which hurt negotiations for a chip deal between Qualcomm and Meta Platforms. In the lawsuit filed in US federal court in Delaware, Qualcomm is seeking to stop paying royalties to Arm for up to five years, an amount that could be worth billions of dollars. Judge Maryellen Noreika is considering whether to remove the five-year royalty hold provision from the contract; if removed, Qualcomm would only be able to seek a smaller amount in damages. Arm, owned by Japan's SoftBank Group, has denied breaking the contract and argued it did not harm Qualcomm's chip deals, which it called speculative, and countered that Qualcomm cannot seek damages for the leaked termination letter because Qualcomm leaked confidential details of antitrust investigations into Arm to the media. The five-day jury trial represents another chapter in the difficult relationship between the two companies.

Goldman Sachs: US Data Center Growth Through 2027 Largely Unchanged Despite Local Opposition

Goldman Sachs strategist Laura Cyr said in a Monday note that the US data center growth outlook through 2027 remains largely unchanged despite rising political and community opposition. Cyr raised Goldman's year-end 2026 US data center capacity forecast by 5 gigawatts to 64 gigawatts, while cutting its year-end 2027 forecast by 5 gigawatts to 90 gigawatts. She now expects US data center power demand to grow 38%, or 12 gigawatts, in 2026 and 38%, or 17 gigawatts, in 2027, on a December versus December basis. Cyr pointed to Governor Abbott's directive to halt new Texas data center permits pending ERCOT and Texas Water Development Board audits, and an NBC News poll showing 64% of voters would be less likely to support a candidate who backs a local data center versus 11% who would be more likely. Separately, BofA Global Research estimated that up to 75% of a data center's total water consumption happens off-site, that GPU-based server electricity demand is growing roughly 30% per year, and that every incremental megawatt of new data center capacity embeds roughly 60 to 75 tons of metals, primarily copper.

Capricor Falls 10% as Deramiocel OLE Data Fails to Ease FDA Concerns

Capricor Therapeutics shares fell about 10% in Monday trading despite positive data from an open-label extension study of deramiocel for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, as investors remained doubtful the candidate will win US FDA approval. A 24-month crossover analysis of HOPE-3 found that patients who began deramiocel after 12 months on placebo slowed upper limb decline by 76% compared to the first year, while patients always on deramiocel showed a similar reduction in rate of decline at both 12 and 24 months. H.C. Wainwright's Joseph Pantginis, who rates Capricor at neutral, said he expects a Complete Response Letter from the FDA for deramiocel, writing that the OLE data strengthens the efficacy story but does not resolve the regulatory uncertainty tied to what occurred during the randomized portion of HOPE-3. Cantor Fitzgerald's Kristen Kluska, who rates Capricor at overweight, was more optimistic, saying the 24-month OLE data reinforce the durability and consistency of the treatment effect and that she leans more toward a potential approval with an attractive risk/reward setup of plus 300% to minus 70%. The OLE analysis was included in a major amendment to the company's BLA, and deramiocel faces a Nov. 22 FDA action date after a late July FDA advisory panel failed to endorse the candidate following briefing documents from agency scientists that called HOPE-3 data into question.

Akamai's $11.6 Billion Anthropic Deal Draws Cramer's Attention

Akamai Technologies announced an approximately $11.6 billion agreement supporting Anthropic's central processing unit workloads, a deal that also provides for a potential additional $9 billion in business beyond the initial commitment. On Mad Money, Jim Cramer said the seven-year contractual commitment works out to $1.66 billion per year, more than a third of what Akamai is expected to bring in this year, though the annual figure is a simple average and Akamai's filing specifies separate seven-year project terms beginning on their respective service start dates, with payments subject to delivery and availability requirements. Akamai estimates approximately $5.5 billion in capital expenditures related to the Anthropic commitment, including an additional approximately $1.7 billion in 2026, and left its 2026 revenue guidance unchanged while issuing an Anthropic warrant covering up to approximately 5% of its outstanding common stock. In the second quarter, Akamai's cloud infrastructure services revenue rose 39% year over year to approximately $99 million and security revenue rose 10% to approximately $604 million, helping total revenue grow 5% to approximately $1.1 billion, while delivery and other cloud applications revenue declined 6% and adjusted earnings per share fell 8% to $1.59. Euro Falls to 17-Month Low on French Debt and Political Worries

The euro slid Monday to its lowest level against the dollar in 17 months as concerns mounted over France's high debt and deficits, sending French government bond yields soaring. The decline followed an underwhelming 2027 budget plan unveiled last week that fanned fears French government spending will stay high ahead of next year's presidential elections, in which the far-right Marine Le Pen, seen as a fiscal populist, stands a chance of winning. French debt is projected to rise to nearly 122 percent of the country's GDP next year despite billions of euros in planned spending cuts, pushing the 10-year government bond yield to 4.8 percent, the highest since the 2011 eurozone bond crisis. A call for snap elections in Spain by Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez added another layer of uncertainty, with Patrick Munnelly of Tickmill Group saying Europe's political risk is weighing on the euro. In Paris, the CAC 40 fell 0.9 percent to 7,824.28, dragged down by bond-yield worries and a nearly 10 percent drop in Schneider Electric shares after the company unveiled a $22.6 billion all-cash deal to buy the US engineering software specialist PTC.

Brazilian stocks surge as Bolsonaro becomes heavy favorite in presidential run-off

Brazilian assets rallied sharply after first-round election results showed Flávio Bolsonaro advancing to an Oct. 25 run-off against incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva with a stronger-than-expected showing. Speculators on prediction market platform Kalshi now give Bolsonaro a more than 80% chance of winning the presidency, up from about 60% before Sunday's first round, while on Polymarket his odds jumped to 85% from 63%. Bolsonaro secured more than 47% of the votes and beat Lula's first round total by nearly 2 percentage points, despite pre-election polls that widely expected him to trail the incumbent in that initial tally. The iShares MSCI Brazil ETF was up more than 12% on Monday, U.S.-listed shares of Itau Unibanco gained 15%, Banco Bradesco surged 19%, and Brazil's local Bovespa index was up 8%. Amazon is trading at its lowest valuation ever as a public company, with its stock at $251 and a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 20x, even as AI peers hit record highs. CEO Robert Bose said the deal removes Trago from the PEL 90 joint venture, eliminating capital obligations that could reach $15 million per exploration well and as much as $500 million if the project moved into development with an uncarried 10% interest, while preserving exposure to milestones such as appraisal plan approval and first oil. Attention now turns to the Nabba 1-X exploration well on PEL 90, expected in December, which will test the prospectivity of Namibia's Orange Basin near the Mopane and Venus discoveries. Bose also noted that Total is set to begin a three-well campaign on PEL 83 in the fourth quarter, with Equinor having recently farmed into PEL 90.

Quanta Raises 2026 Free Cash Flow Outlook to $2-$2.5 Billion

Quanta Services raised its full-year 2026 free cash flow outlook to $2-$2.5 billion, alongside operating cash flow expectations of $2.9-$3.4 billion, after a strong first half. In the second quarter, Quanta generated operating cash flow of $1.10 billion and free cash flow of $886 million, bringing first-half free cash flow to $1.07 billion, sharply higher than $288 million in the comparable 2025 period. Management attributed the second-quarter strength partly to favorable working-capital dynamics, particularly from large-load and renewable projects, while days sales outstanding improved to 57 days. The outlook is underpinned by a record $53.4 billion backlog, expanding project activity and rising investment in electric grids, power generation, data centers and other mission-critical infrastructure. Quanta still expects roughly $900 million of net capital expenditures in 2026, and cash generation could fluctuate with project timing, working-capital requirements, acquisitions, weather, permitting, supply-chain issues, inflation and project execution. Quanta competes with MasTec and EMCOR Group across power, electrical and mission-critical infrastructure markets; MasTec reported negative $59 million of free cash flow in the second quarter, while EMCOR posted record remaining performance obligations of $17.14 billion.

Zscaler CEO Jay Chaudhry Warns AI Agents Are the New Weak Link in Cybersecurity

Zscaler CEO Jay Chaudhry said AI agents will become the weakest link in corporate security, warning that agents running loose on corporate networks can be hijacked and operate at machine speed with no breaks. In a Yahoo Finance interview, Chaudhry said more than 50% of Fortune 500 companies are Zscaler customers and that the company is extending its zero-trust architecture to agents, giving them access only to specific applications and services. He said enterprises are not ready for tools like Meta's Muse, though his team has been testing it, and he rejected OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's suggestion that the world should accept some bad outcomes for AI's benefits. Chaudhry also said Zscaler's investor day, its first since 2021, will share visibility into the AI and agentic contribution to its financials, after JPMorgan asked for greater clarity on timing and magnitude. He added that going public makes companies more responsible and that Zscaler has been public for eight years.

Gold Rebounds as Investors Raise Odds to 78.4% for Fed Rate Hold in October After Weak Jobs Data

Gold prices rebounded today after weak employment figures eased investors' concerns about interest rate hikes by the US Federal Reserve. As of 9:37 pm Thailand time, spot gold rose 0.43 dollars, or 0.01%, to 4,140.10 dollars per ounce, while COMEX December gold futures gained 7.00 dollars, or 0.17%, to 4,169.30 dollars per ounce. Investors increased their bets that the Fed will hold rates steady at its October meeting after the US Labor Department reported that nonfarm payrolls rose by only 29,000 in September, below analysts' forecast of 89,000, while the unemployment rate rose to 4.2%, against expectations that it would remain steady at 4.1%. The latest CME Group FedWatch Tool indicates that investors now assign a 78.4% probability to the Fed holding rates at 3.75-4.00% in October, up from just 29.1% a week earlier, and a 21.6% probability to a 0.25% rate hike to 4.00-4.25%, down from as much as 70.9% previously. However, gold's gains were capped by a stronger dollar, while investors await the minutes of the Fed's September monetary policy meeting, due for release on Wednesday.

Citigroup Expands Citi Token Services to Japan and UAE

Citigroup Inc. is taking Citi Token Services to Japan and the United Arab Emirates, broadening its digital payments network across key financial hubs. Built on a private and permissioned blockchain, the platform enables near-instantaneous movement of funds within Citigroup's network, helping clients overcome traditional banking cut-off times, holidays and time-zone constraints. With the addition of Japan and the UAE, Citi Token Services is now available across seven markets, including the United States, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Kingdom; Japan will support USD transactions, while the UAE will support USD and euro transactions. The platform, launched commercially in 2024 following an initial Singapore-New York pilot, was integrated with Citigroup's 24/7 U.S. dollar Clearing capabilities in 2025 and later expanded to support euro transactions through its Dublin operations. The initiative aligns with Citigroup's 2026 Investor Day strategy, which identified tokenization and next-generation platforms as longer-term Services growth drivers, with Services revenues expected to grow at a low to mid-single-digit rate in 2027-2028.

Morgan Stanley: Nvidia and Broadcom Largely Insulated From Data Center Power Shortages

Morgan Stanley said on the 5th that semiconductor giants Nvidia and Broadcom are relatively unlikely to be affected by the worsening data center power shortage in the United States. The firm estimated last month that even if U.S. data center developers adopt measures such as "behind-the-meter" power generation, which integrates power plants with data centers, and fuel cells, they will face a net power shortfall of 34 percent by 2028, equivalent to a shortfall of 32 gigawatts. Morgan Stanley noted that because Nvidia and Broadcom have clear visibility on chip deployment, geographic expansion, and coordination among data centers, semiconductor suppliers, and power supply networks, these bottlenecks will not threaten the two companies' 2027 outlook. On the other hand, if semiconductor production capacity cannot be expanded, customers may delay delivery schedules or cancel orders, and memory, optical components, power management, and analog components are most vulnerable to inventory-related disruptions. Goldman Sachs has also pointed to growing constraints on U.S. data center construction, seeing the short-term impact of political backlash as limited, while Morgan Stanley cites labor, power, and politics as the three challenges.

AWS Says AI Costs Falling Up To 100x Every Few Months As It Defends $220 Billion Buildout

Amazon Web Services Chief AI and Technology Officer Matt Wood said the cost of delivering a given level of AI intelligence is falling by one or two orders of magnitude every three to six months outside the most advanced frontier models, a decline he attributed to improving efficiency as companies learn to operationalize frontier models at lower cost. Speaking to CNBC on Thursday, Wood rejected the idea that more capable AI agents must become less safe, saying developers can surround models with controls, guardrails, security and privacy protections while still improving the underlying technology, and pushed back on the notion that companies must choose between development speed and safety. Wood also defended AWS's $220 billion infrastructure investment, pointing to customer demand and internal business metrics, and said he expects additional computing capacity and greater operating efficiency to bring AI to more businesses and users. Accelerating AWS growth helped push Amazon above $3 trillion in market value for the first time in August 2026, after second-quarter results showed AWS revenue growing at its fastest pace since 2021; the stock surged more than 15% in one session, adding nearly $400 billion in market value, before gaining as much as another 5.3% as it crossed the threshold. TD Cowen analyst John Blackledge said AWS's AI business exited a quarter at roughly a $25 billion annual run rate, its fifth consecutive quarter of accelerating revenue growth, and pointed to CEO Andy Jassy's view that AWS could eventually generate $1 trillion in revenue, compared with the $600 billion long-term opportunity Jassy discussed in his April shareholder letter. Amazon expects AWS to remain capacity constrained through 2026 and 2027 because of AI demand, even as it plans to double AWS capacity by the end of 2027.

BNP Paribas Raises AMD Price Target 60% to $960 on AI CPU Strength

BNP Paribas raised its price target on AMD by 60% to $960, citing remarkable strength in CPUs driven by artificial intelligence, while keeping a Neutral rating on the Dr. Lisa Su-led company. Analyst Karl Ackerman wrote that AMD is increasingly becoming a leading provider of AI infrastructure, successfully pivoting from a silicon pure-play to a full-stack systems platform, and said the firm's new agentic CPU model supports above-consensus estimates driven by AMD's leadership and roadmap to capture a growing share of a roughly $245B agentic CPU total addressable market by 2030. Ackerman noted that AMD's Helios AI accelerators have become a credible second source to Nvidia, backed by 14 gigawatts of commitments, and that the success of Helios, improvements in ROCm integration, and the recent acquisition of World Labs bolster AMD's opportunity to address frontier AI deployments, with OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic having announced multi-gigawatt agreements and AMD potentially capturing at least 8% of the more than $1T 2030 GPU market. The analyst added that AMD expects ASICs and XPUs to serve roughly 25% of the accelerator market over time, with the Cerebras partnership pairing Helios for high-throughput inference with Cerebras' Wafer-Scale Engine for ultra-low-latency token generation, and the Taalas acquisition adding IP and engineering talent for AMD's own low-latency silicon. AMD shares were modestly lower in Monday trading.

Ford EV Sales Fall About 80% in Q3 as Trucks and Ford Pro Carry the Load

Ford's electric vehicle sales fell about 80% year over year in the third quarter of 2026, with EV sales down 67.5% through September, according to CNBC. The steep drop partly reflects an unusually strong comparison: last year's third quarter saw record Ford EV sales as buyers rushed to purchase before U.S. President Donald Trump ended federal incentives of up to $7,500. Total third-quarter sales were 509,764 vehicles, down 6.6%, a decline Ford attributes largely to planned portfolio changes such as retiring the Escape and Corsair; adjusting for that, Ford estimates its retail share rose about 0.4 percentage points to 12.1%. The F-Series posted the highest retail share and retail revenues among full-line truck brands, with the lowest incentive spending in its segment, and is on track to be America's best-selling truck for the 50th straight year, while Super Duty delivered its best quarterly production in 19 years. A supplier issue halted F-150 production from Sept. 24 to 30, but Ford says the impact is containable within its full-year adjusted EBIT guidance of $10-$11 billion. Ford Pro's active paid software subscriptions topped 1.7 million through September, up more than 40% from a year ago, and the Model e unit lost $919 million in the second quarter, its third straight quarter of year-over-year improvement, though management expects a full-year 2026 loss of about $4 billion from that unit.

Jefferies names 8 tech stock winners from a divided Congress

Jefferies says a divided government may be the best midterm elections outcome for Big Tech players spending massive amounts of money to build out AI infrastructure. In a note on Monday, the Jefferies research team wrote that a split government and prospects for a national AI policy, rather than fragmented state-level rules, should ensure the rapid pace of AI innovation continues, disproportionately benefiting large, scaled players. The firm's biggest tech winners include Amazon, which benefits regardless of which AI model wins through a model agnostic platform approach; Alphabet, which gets more time to catch up in the AI model race with Gemini 4 Pro and beyond; Microsoft, which has the highest trust from enterprises given its pervasive presence in corporate IT shops; Oracle, emerging as the fourth enterprise cloud option with outsized upside if data center permitting and regulatory hurdles ease; CoreWeave, rapidly becoming recognized as a leading alternative to megacap hyperscalers; Snowflake, a top 2 vendor for AI data plumbing; Datadog, as observability becomes paramount; and Meta, on renewed consumer and small business momentum with Muse and Meta Business Agents. The analysts noted the president's party has lost House seats in 18 of 20 postwar midterms, and with Trump's approval near 39% and independents at 24%, they expect a GOP setback. The 2026 midterm elections are coming on Nov. 3, when voters will choose all 435 members of the House and 35 senators. Truist chief strategist Keith Lerner pointed out that every midterm election year since 1946 has been followed by positive one-year stock returns, with the biggest gain a 34% return after the 1954 elections and an average one-year gain of 14.4%.

Inspire Medical Systems announced that the American Medical Association's CPT Editorial Panel approved new Category I CPT codes for procedures involving a single lead and implantable pulse generator, including the company's recent launch of the Inspire V system. The new codes, effective Jan. 1, 2028, establish a dedicated coding framework for hypoglossal nerve stimulation procedures and are expected to create a clearer, more consistent pathway for coding and reimbursement while reducing administrative burden for hospitals and physicians. The company credited support from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the International Surgical Sleep Society in seeking a permanent coding solution. The codes now enter the Medicare valuation process, with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services expected to weigh recommendations from the AMA Relative Value Scale Update Committee; Inspire Medical expects CMS to publish proposed valuations in July 2027 and final valuations in November 2027. Inspire V, a closed-loop implantable device designed to synchronize with patients' natural breathing to help maintain an open airway during sleep, has treated more than 140,000 patients over more than a decade of clinical experience. INSP stock has lost 1.1% since the announcement on Thursday and is down 24.2% year to date, against the industry's 18.4% growth and the S&P 500's 12.3% rise, with a market capitalization of $2.02 billion.

UnitedHealth to Drop 390,000 Medicare Advantage Members in 2027

UnitedHealth Group is scaling back parts of its Medicare Advantage business for 2027, with UnitedHealthcare discontinuing plans covering about 390,000 members next year as elevated medical costs and utilization pressure profitability. Reuters reported that UnitedHealthcare plans to exit locations where it has a higher concentration of preferred provider organization plans, which offer broader out-of-network access but can carry higher costs. UnitedHealthcare said 66% of members will have access to both health maintenance organization and PPO plans in 2027, compared with 70% in 2026. Beyond portfolio changes, UnitedHealth plans to invest nearly $1.5 billion in AI-related initiatives in 2026 to improve productivity and reduce administrative burden. Competitors are making similar moves: Humana is pruning its Medicare Advantage portfolio for 2027 with exits expected to affect roughly 600,000 members, while Centene's Wellcare is reducing its plan lineup and exiting Hawaii, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

Deutsche Bank Sees Meta Muse Driving Up to $36.3 Billion in Sales by 2030

Deutsche Bank has laid out three scenarios for Meta Muse, forecasting that the product could generate $36.3 billion in sales by 2030 in its most optimistic case. The middle case projects about $10.7 million, while the base case puts revenue potential at roughly $2.4 billion. The forecasts were detailed on page seven of a Deutsche Bank note, and Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi said he double-checked the top figure to confirm it was $36.3 billion and not $36.3 million. Sozzi noted Meta's stock has climbed roughly 23 to 24 percent over the past month on optimism about Muse, citing strong downloads and early use cases. He also discussed Meta's talent push, including the hiring of the former MongoDB chief executive, with a former Meta chief technology officer who said Mark Zuckerberg personally recruits key leaders.

Honda and Redwire Team Up on Robotic Hand for Commercial Space Stations

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. is exploring a robotics solution for research and laboratory operations aboard future commercial space stations, working with space and defense technology provider Redwire Corporation. Honda's U.S.-based space development team is combining its multi-fingered robotic hand with Redwire's STAARK robotic arm and experiment locker technology to automate research tasks and cut the time astronauts spend on routine lab work. The push comes as NASA shifts from the International Space Station toward commercially operated stations in low Earth orbit, where smaller crews and shorter astronaut stays are increasing the need for automation. Honda's hand uses actively controlled joints with force and tactile sensing across the fingertips and palm for precise, human-like manipulation, while Redwire operates eight facilities on the ISS and has tested the STAARK arm's ability to autonomously track and grasp dynamic objects. The integrated system could eventually support the broader experiment workflow, from sample handling and material transfers to equipment operation, plus inventory management, cargo movement and inspections.
