AXT vs. Diodes: Which Emerging Chip Stock Looks More Attractive in 2026?

AXT and Diodes are both benefiting from the AI-driven semiconductor upcycle, but AXT's direct exposure to hyperscale AI infrastructure makes its long-term story more compelling. AXT's first-quarter revenues grew 39% year over year to $26.9 million, with Indium Phosphide revenues of $13.6 million driven by optical transceivers for AI data centers, and management disclosed a record backlog exceeding $100 million. Diodes reported first-quarter revenues up 22% to $405.5 million, with automotive and industrial accounting for 44% of product revenues, though its diversified model yields more moderate growth. AXTI trades at a forward price-to-sales ratio of 29.5X, well above the industry average of 9.95X, while DIOD trades at 3.17X. Despite the premium valuation, AXT's aggressive capacity expansion and direct AI leverage position it as the more attractive emerging semiconductor stock.
