IGI posts $42.5 million first-half profit despite largest-ever war losses
International General Insurance Holdings reported net income of $42.5 million, or $0.98 per share, for the first half of 2026, down from $61.4 million, or $1.36 per share, a year earlier, as the company absorbed what management called possibly the largest net loss event in its history from Middle East conflict. Gross written premiums reached approximately $400 million for the half, a 1.2% increase, while the combined ratio stood at 92.2%, including 19 points of catastrophe losses, of which 12 points were tied to war activity. Net war losses totaled about $39 million for the first six months, predominantly in the political violence book, yet the company maintained an ex-catastrophe accident year combined ratio of 86.2% and returned over $72 million to shareholders through dividends and buybacks. CEO Walid Jabsheh noted that pricing corrections in political violence coverage drove a 45% growth in that book during the second quarter, and the company launched a new branch in India’s GIFT City, writing $10 million in gross premiums. Total equity fell to $670 million from $710 million at year-end 2025, reflecting capital returns, while investment income reached $28.6 million for the half with a fixed-income yield of 4.5%.
