IonQ's Skyloom Optical Terminals Reach 84 On-Orbit Installations

IonQ's Skyloom Global announced that dozens of additional optical communication terminals have been successfully deployed on orbit, bringing the total to 84 installations. The terminals were aboard York Space Systems satellites supporting the Space Development Agency's Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture, launched July 16, 2026, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base. This latest deployment builds on the previous OCTs launched during SDA's first Tranche 1 mission in September 2025, resulting in several dozen OCTs on orbit. The achievement represents one of the largest operational lasercomm payload footprints in low-Earth orbit.

Goldman says space is becoming an institutional asset class

Goldman Sachs says space is becoming an institutional asset class as falling launch costs and rising private investment reshape the orbital economy. The firm forecasts the global space-based economy will reach $1.8 trillion by 2035, with more than $55 billion invested in 2025 and a record $36 billion in the first quarter of 2026. Since the start of 2025, aerospace companies have raised $89 billion through IPOs, including Firefly's roughly $999 million listing, York Space Systems' roughly $629 million raise, HawkEye 360's roughly $478 million raise, and SpaceX's record $86 billion IPO. Goldman says public-market funding is critical because the next stage of space industrialization will require large upfront investment in launch capacity, satellite factories, lunar infrastructure, and data platforms.

Lowey Dannenberg Investigates York Space Systems for Potential Securities Law Violations

Lowey Dannenberg P.C. is investigating York Space Systems, Inc. for potential violations of federal securities laws. The investigation follows a May 12, 2026 short report by Wolfpack Research alleging that the Pentagon's decision to eliminate its Space Development Agency Tranche 3 Transport Layer program, which accounted for the majority of York's annual revenue, was rooted in severe disappointment with the company. The report claims that York deceived the SDA with false advertising, cut corners, and delivered satellites with incomplete mission-critical software. Lowey Dannenberg is examining whether the company and its executives provided investors with accurate and complete information.
