PacBio Cuts 2026 Revenue Outlook Amid Slower SPRQ-Nx Transition

Pacific Biosciences of California, or PacBio, lowered its 2026 revenue guidance to $155-$165 million from $165-$175 million, citing weaker instrument demand and a slower-than-expected transition to its SPRQ-Nx chemistry, even as clinical adoption grows. The company now expects cash-flow breakeven in 2028 instead of by the end of 2027, and reduced its 2026 non-GAAP gross-margin outlook to 35%-37%. In the second quarter, revenues fell 2% to $39 million, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 4.2%, with instrument revenues down 9.9% to $12.8 million. However, clinical consumable shipments rose 67%, and EMEA revenues increased 52% to $14.4 million, while PacBio shipped 20 Revio systems, up from 15 a year earlier. The company expects restructuring to cut 2027 compensation-related expenses by about $15-$20 million, with additional annual savings as high-throughput platform development spending declines.

Merck and Moderna Cancer Vaccine Success Lifts Five Biotech Stocks

Merck and Moderna announced positive topline Phase 3 results for their individualized cancer vaccine intismeran autogene in resected melanoma, beating Keytruda alone on recurrence-free survival, though no specific efficacy numbers have been released yet. The news lifted several biotech names, with BioNTech surging 21.6% on read-across excitement and Illumina rising 15.6% to $223.22 because its NovaSeq X sequencers are required for every individualized neoantigen dose manufactured. Pacific Biosciences gained 5.8% to $1.28, Repligen traded at $181.62 after reporting second-quarter revenue of $204 million with 13% organic growth, and Danaher saw mid-teens bioprocessing order growth in the second quarter. Leerink Partners analyst Daina Graybosch called the market reaction overly optimistic but still raised her 2032 intismeran forecast to $1.4 billion, while Morningstar projects $16.8 billion by 2035.

PacBio lowers 2026 revenue forecast to $155M-$165M and pushes cash flow breakeven to 2028

Pacific Biosciences of California has lowered its full-year 2026 revenue guidance to between $155 million and $165 million and now expects to reach cash flow breakeven in 2028, a year later than previously anticipated. The company reported second-quarter revenue of $39 million, roughly flat compared with $39.8 million a year earlier, while non-GAAP gross margin came in at 36 percent. PacBio also announced that Chief Operating Officer Mark Van Oene has taken over as President and Chief Executive Officer, replacing Christian Henry effective immediately, and is implementing a leaner organizational structure focused on clinical workflows and the rollout of SPRQ-Nx chemistry. Non-GAAP operating expenses for the year are projected at $215 million to $220 million, and full-year consumables pull-through per Revio system is now expected to be $200,000 to $225,000. The company cited SPRQ-Nx transition headwinds and compute cost inflation as factors weighing on near-term performance.

PacBio unveils SPRQ-Nx chemistry for Vega system, boosting HiFi data up to 50% and cutting per-run cost

PacBio announced the upcoming release of SPRQ-Nx chemistry and a software update for its Vega benchtop sequencing system, increasing HiFi data output from 60 Gb to 90 Gb per run while lowering the U.S. list price from $1,100 to $995. The higher output and lower price reduce cost per gigabase by approximately 40%, and the update introduces two-hour and four-hour run options alongside new 5hmC, 5mC, and 6mA methylation callers that bring Vega’s multiomic capabilities in line with the high-throughput Revio system. The software also adds user login and audit-tracking features to support 21 CFR Part 11 compliance, and DNA input requirements drop from 2 µg to as low as 500 ng, enabling up to 96-sample multiplexing with PureTarget panels. PacBio plans to ship the new chemistry and make the software available for download by the end of the month.
