Hog Price Rebound Signals Trough of Pig Cycle, CSI Agriculture Theme Index Surges Over 3%

The CSI Agriculture Theme Index surged 3.05%, with component stock Giant Star Livestock hitting the daily limit up, New Hope rising 7.52%, Tianbang Food gaining 5.73%, and Muyuan Foods and Wens Foodstuff following the uptrend. The CSI Animal Husbandry and Breeding Industry Index also jumped 3.64%, with its components similarly active. The hog farming sector recently saw an oversold rebound. As of last Friday, the national average hog price exceeded 11 yuan per kilogram, up 13% week-on-week, while average slaughter weight fell 0.21% week-on-week. Founder Securities believes the price rise stems from the widening spread between standard and fat pigs after deep losses drove continuous clearance of heavy pigs, fueling sentiment for holding back sales and secondary fattening. Guosheng Securities noted that although losses per head for farrow-to-finish operations have narrowed, deep losses persist. The implementation of capacity control policies is expected to accelerate industry destocking. The hog price trough has emerged, and momentum for a cycle reversal is building.
