IT security used to be like building a castle — dig a moat, raise a wall (firewall) around the office. Anyone inside the city counts as safe. But once everyone works from home and the apps move to the cloud, the castle stands empty — people and data are all outside the walls. So the new idea flips it on its head: stop trusting anyone based on location, and check everyone every single time they ask for access (zero trust), then lift the entire security job up to the cloud (SASE). This is one of the fastest-growing markets in all of security.
AI-agent security becomes a broad SASE demand driver Cloudflare says AI-agent security is pulling big firms to its Zero Trust/SASE platform, with one UK agency re-tendering. Netskope calls AI Security its fastest pipeline ever and raised full-year guidance to ~26% growth; shares jumped 24.5%. This shows AI is now a mainstream reason buyers pick SASE vendors, not just a side product.
Names the newest force — AI-agent security — driving SASE demand across multiple vendors.
▲
Cisco and Fastly post strong security demand tied to AI traffic Cisco's security revenue rose 14% to $2.23 billion with firewall orders up over 30% and 1,500+ customers buying new Secure Access/SASE products. Fastly set a 2029 revenue target of $1.1–1.3 billion, citing AI traffic growing 6.5 times faster than human traffic, and launched AI Firewall and API security tools.
Shows the AI-traffic surge is converting into real orders and new products at major vendors.
◆
Independent firewall tests split the field, exposing weak cloud options CyberRatings/NSS Labs tested nine cloud firewalls: only Fortinet, Juniper, Palo Alto and Versa earned Recommended (99.7%+ effectiveness). Check Point was Neutral on high price, while AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud and Cisco's virtual firewall landed in Caution. This favors proven vendors but highlights uneven quality in cloud-delivered protection.
A new independent test that separates winners from laggards in the firewall/SASE product race.

Cloudflare expands European reach and network control point Cloudflare partnered with Deutsche Telekom to sell security and connectivity to European enterprises, including post-quantum cryptography work, and launched tools to block non-compliant AI crawlers at the network level. This widens Cloudflare's distribution and makes its network a gatekeeper for AI traffic, strengthening its SASE position.
New channel and product moves that expand Cloudflare's SASE/network-security footprint in Europe.

Government to Strengthen Public-Private Threat Hunting in FY2027, Sharing Methods to Protect Critical Infrastructure
In fiscal 2027, the government will strengthen public-private efforts to investigate whether attackers have infiltrated or are lurking within systems, in order to protect critical infrastructure such as power and telecommunications from cyberattacks. It will build detection methods tailored to threat intelligence and share them with private operators. "Threat hunting," which seeks out threats lurking inside systems, is one of the means of active cyber defense under the relevant law that took effect on the same day, and based on specific threat intelligence, the National Cyber Operations Office will reproduce attacks in a virtual environment and build and verify detection methods that the private sector can use. The Ministry of Defense will also leverage the search capabilities cultivated in the Self-Defense Forces' information systems to provide direct support, including visiting critical infrastructure operators upon request, and the National Cyber Operations Office and the Ministry of Defense have included related expenses in their budget requests for fiscal 2027. Behind this is the concern that a shutdown of privately operated critical infrastructure could lead to a national crisis in a contingency, and U.S. authorities estimated in 2024 that a group believed to be backed by the Chinese government, "Volt Typhoon," had maintained access to parts of U.S. critical infrastructure for more than five years. On the other hand, accumulating and analyzing the logs needed for hunting requires manpower and cost, and NTT Data has been conducting threat hunting on its internal systems since 2024, with Yusuke Nakajima, who is in charge of the effort, pointing out that "to expand the activity, we need to show management the cost-effectiveness."
Netskope Shares Jump 24.5% Since Earnings as Full-Year Revenue Guidance Raised
Netskope shares have climbed about 24.5% since its last earnings report, outpacing the S&P 500, after the company posted second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue of $220.5 million, up 29% year over year and above guidance. The company reported a non-GAAP loss of 3 cents per share, an improvement from a loss of 6 cents a year earlier, while annual recurring revenue reached $899 million, up 27%, and remaining performance obligations hit $1.35 billion, up 36%. Netskope raised its full-year fiscal 2027 revenue guidance to a range of $888 million to $892 million, roughly 26% growth, up from a prior range of $879 million to $883 million, and guided third-quarter revenue to $227 million to $229 million, about 24% growth. Management pointed to AI Security as the fastest pipeline build in company history, with roughly one-third of that pipeline in or entering the proof-of-concept phase, and said about 50% of sales representatives are still new or ramping, positioning the company for accelerated net new ARR in the second half. The company ended the quarter with approximately $1.1 billion in cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities, and carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

Bell Canada and Cisco Sign Sovereign AI Infrastructure MOU
Bell Canada and Cisco announced a memorandum of understanding in late September 2026 to build a sovereign AI infrastructure platform in Canada, pairing Bell's domestic data centres and networks with Cisco's AI, security, observability, and Sovereign Critical Infrastructure technologies for customers with strict data residency and control needs. The partnership sits alongside Cisco's US$9.3b in hyperscale AI infrastructure orders for FY26 and US$7.5b of expected related FY27 revenue, extending the same AI networking and security capabilities toward government and regulated workloads. Cisco's investment narrative projects $83.4 billion in revenue and $20.1 billion in earnings by 2029, requiring 9.6% yearly revenue growth and a $6.8 billion earnings increase from $13.3 billion today, with a $137.25 fair value estimate implying 28% upside. Some of the most optimistic analysts see Cisco reaching about US$90.6b in revenue and US$23.0b in earnings by 2029, while other fair value estimates put the stock as low as $110.56. The MOU reinforces the AI and regulated-sector demand story but does not materially change the near-term gross margin headwind or the risk that investors reassess Cisco's growth and earnings multiple.

Cloudflare Sees AI Agent Security Demand Lifting Zero Trust and SASE Growth
Cloudflare said growing enterprise interest in securing artificial intelligence agents is creating a new opportunity for its Zero Trust and SASE security business. On the second-quarter 2026 earnings call, management said the biggest reason large companies are reaching out is that they know they need to adopt AI but want to do so securely, and the company believes its agents-first security model can help it take share from traditional Zero Trust vendors that focus mainly on human users. In one example, a large U.K. government agency that was evaluating a first-generation Zero Trust provider canceled its existing request for proposal and is now reevaluating the project with an agents-first approach after discussing its AI agent plans with Cloudflare. Management said its SASE and Zero Trust platforms have gained share significantly over the past six months, helped by its developer platform and its focus on AI, while more than 50% of traffic on its network was nonhuman in the second quarter and more than 80% of major AI companies are already Cloudflare customers. Competitors are moving in the same direction: Zscaler ended fiscal 2026 with 950-plus Zero Trust Everywhere customers, up from more than 350 a year earlier, and Palo Alto Networks said Prisma AIRS crossed $100 million in ARR within four quarters of general availability with more than 800 customers by the end of fiscal 2026, while agentic traffic on its SASE platform rose ninefold over the past nine months and SASE bookings grew 40% in fiscal 2026. Cloudflare shares have jumped 77% year to date, and the Zacks Consensus Estimate for its 2026 earnings stands at $1.26 per share, unchanged over the past 30 days and implying a 35.5% increase from the previous year.

Fastly, Inc. expanded its Fastly for AI portfolio with AI Runtime Control, AI Firewall, and new API Security tools, giving organizations real-time visibility and control over AI traffic across models, applications, and enterprise APIs on its global edge platform. By unifying AI governance, security, and routing at the edge, Fastly aims to let customers run increasingly complex AI and agent workloads without locking into a single model provider. The company's investment narrative projects $947.9 million in revenue and $76.8 million in earnings by 2029, with a fair value of $27.00, a 9% downside to its current price. Some of the most optimistic analysts were already modeling revenue near US$981,000,000 by 2029. Zscaler Launches Agentic SOC AI Security Platform With Anthropic and OpenAI
Zscaler launched its Agentic SOC, an AI-first security operations platform that combines proprietary telemetry, a large decoy mesh network, and integrated zero trust controls with third-party tools to detect and contain threats at machine speed. The platform uses AI agents co-developed with Anthropic and OpenAI, trained on a decade of frontline SOC experience and powered by more than 750 billion daily zero trust transactions to automate complex threat investigation and response. The launch follows the June expansion of Zscaler's Zero Trust SASE with the ZAgent Framework and new browser, endpoint, and cloud controls, both moves deepening Zscaler's role as an integrated security and AI operations platform. Zscaler's narrative projects $5.1 billion revenue and $132.0 million earnings by 2029, yielding a $196.95 fair value, a 6% downside to its current price, while some of the lowest estimate analysts assume revenue of about US$5.2 billion and earnings near US$50 million by 2029 and worry that acquisitions and aggressive AI investment around Agentic SOC could keep margins subdued even if topline keeps growing.

Bernstein Lifts Zscaler Target to $298, Downgrades Palo Alto Networks
Bernstein analyst Peter Weed raised his price target on Zscaler to $298 and maintained an Outperform rating on September 17, implying roughly 46% upside when the call was published, while downgrading Palo Alto Networks and several other cybersecurity names to Market Perform. Bernstein framed the split as a valuation call rather than a bet against AI security demand, noting Zscaler entered the call down about 11.5% in 2026 while many peers had rallied. Zscaler reported a 115% dollar-based net retention rate in fiscal Q1, and management later said that level had remained fairly stable for several quarters. Palo Alto's broad platform spans network, cloud and security operations, but Bernstein's downgrade reflects the price investors already pay for that strength, with integration costs, a larger share count and slowing growth comparisons raising the hurdle. Insider Monkey tracked 52 hedge funds holding Zscaler in Q2, up from 46 in Q1, while Palo Alto ownership edged up to 89 funds from 87, and Fisher Asset Management increased its PANW position 2,143% to about 5.8 million shares.
Fortinet Hits 52-Week High as AI Security Platform Demand Lifts Q2 Billings 33%
Fortinet shares climbed to a fresh 52-week high of $175.23 on Sept. 21, 2026, before closing at $172.78, up roughly 3% on the session, extending a rally built on accelerating demand for its unified security platform. The company rolled out FortiSOC, a cloud-delivered security operations center embedding agentic AI across SIEM, SOAR, threat intelligence and identity-detection functions, and extended FortiEndpoint with AI visibility, governance and data-loss-prevention capabilities, while deepening its FortiAIGate integration with NVIDIA's accelerated computing stack. In the second quarter of 2026, billings rose 33% year over year to $2.37 billion, revenues grew 26% to $2.05 billion, and product revenues surged 52% to $773 million, with non-GAAP operating margin hitting a second-quarter record of 38% and free cash flow more than tripling to $966 million. Management raised full-year 2026 guidance to $8.02-$8.18 billion for revenues, $9.35-$9.55 billion for billings, and $3.41-$3.47 for non-GAAP EPS, with third-quarter guidance calling for revenues of $2.01-$2.10 billion. Fortinet shares have gained 120.7% year to date, and the Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2026 earnings is $3.42 per share, implying year-over-year growth of 23.91%.
Netskope reported second-quarter fiscal 2027 results on September 2, 2026, with revenue of $220.5 million beating guidance, annual recurring revenue up 27% year-over-year to $899 million, and remaining performance obligations up 36% to $1.35 billion. After management raised full-year guidance, eight analysts raised price targets the following day, including RBC Capital to $20 from $18, BMO Capital to $18 from $13, JPMorgan to $18 from $16, and Morgan Stanley to $16 from $14, while Stephens initiated coverage at Overweight with a $21 target. Customers generating over $100,000 in annual recurring revenue rose 23% to 1,686, now 87% of total ARR, and 59% of customers use four or more Netskope products, up from 51% a year ago. The bear case rests on operating detail: negative free cash flow of $29.8 million in the quarter, full-year free cash flow margin guidance of only about 2%, a roughly 5% workforce reduction to redirect spending toward AI infrastructure, and third-quarter revenue guidance implying growth slowing to roughly 24% from 29%. CEO Sanjay Beri highlighted that autonomous AI agents can move beyond controlled environments and exploit weaknesses without specific instructions, a challenge requiring substantial ongoing investment with financial benefits potentially arriving only later.

Aviatrix Launches Harvest and Decrypt Protection for Post-Quantum Cloud Security
Aviatrix announced Harvest and Decrypt Protection, which it calls the first post-quantum protection that encrypts data and simultaneously governs what a compromised workload can reach, delivering crypto-agile encryption and Communication Governance as one policy in software on the network enterprises already run. The offering arrives a month before federal civilian agencies must file post-quantum migration plans on October 22, and ahead of the 2029 full quantum-readiness roadmaps published by Google and Microsoft; Amazon Web Services publishes no equivalent target. Harvest Protection comes with five free policies to start, with no trial clock and no purchase required, and is free to start for existing Aviatrix customers, with the first five policies and five nodes free with no license and no time limit. Aviatrix said its patented High-Performance Encryption engine removes the throughput trade-off that causes most enterprises to leave cloud transit unprotected, citing one Fortune 5 customer running 400 gigabits per second fully encrypted in production at line rate, and that key establishment on the control plane uses the ML-KEM standard today, with hybrid ML-KEM on the data plane a fast-follow release. The company is working with global systems integrators and security services providers and collaborating with Microsoft on the Quantum Safe program as the network traffic and Harvest Now, Decrypt Later containment solution. Aviatrix also cited deadlines including Executive Order 14412, which sets December 31, 2030, for post-quantum key establishment and December 31, 2031, for digital signatures on high-value assets, and said enterprises can begin with a free Containment Assessment that returns a provisional Blast Radius and harvest exposure read in about five minutes.

ZS shares have plunged 12.3% year to date, and the stock carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold).
Fortinet Fair Value Raised to US$163.13 as Analysts Lift Price Targets
Fortinet's modeled fair value has been reset from US$119.92 to US$163.13, according to Simply Wall St, as analysts lifted their price targets on strong demand. Several firms, including TD Cowen, BTIG, RBC Capital, Barclays, UBS, and Citi, raised their Fortinet price targets into a US$170 to US$215 range, citing strong Q2 results, billings and product trends, and AI-related demand for networking and security. Morgan Stanley upgraded Fortinet to Equal Weight from Underweight with a higher US$133 target, saying hardware demand tied to AI preparedness had been underestimated. On the bearish side, Wedbush and Wells Fargo flagged valuation as a key watchpoint, with Wedbush arguing the stock already reflects a best-case scenario, while HSBC and JPMorgan stayed cautious with Reduce and Underweight ratings respectively, HSBC carrying a US$102 target. The fair-value model's revenue growth assumption rose from 11.69% to 13.25%, its net profit margin from 27.17% to 29.57%, its future P/E from 36.45x to 45.46x, and its discount rate from 8.54% to 8.58%.
Palo Alto Networks Fair Value Estimate Raised 17% to US$395.38
The fair value estimate for Palo Alto Networks has been raised from US$336.70 to US$395.38, a roughly 17% increase in the underlying model, after a wave of analyst price target hikes. RBC Capital, Wells Fargo, BofA, Morgan Stanley and Truist lifted their targets into the low to mid US$400s, citing stronger cybersecurity demand as AI usage expands and customers consolidate spending with larger platforms. Goldman Sachs, Oppenheimer, BTIG and Susquehanna pointed to solid Q4 results and guidance, with broad based strength across firewalls, SASE, observability, identity and AI security modules. On the bearish side, Bernstein and Phillip Securities moved to more neutral stances while still raising targets, and Stephens and UBS described the risk or reward as more balanced with shares near peak valuation levels. The updated model trims the revenue growth assumption to about 17.31% from about 19.09% and the net profit margin outlook to about 13.84% from about 14.51%, while the future P/E rises to about 197.87x from about 164.67x and the discount rate adjusts to about 8.60% from 8.40%.

Palo Alto Networks SASE Bookings Jump 40% as Displacements Hit $400 Million
Palo Alto Networks said its SASE bookings grew 40% in fiscal 2026, with the company displacing legacy vendors in nearly 100 customer accounts representing more than $400 million in total contract value, roughly double the prior year's displacement volume. Management said PANW is currently the No. 2 player in SASE and aims to become the market leader over the next five to seven years, helped by integrating SASE with its firewall and SD-WAN products so existing customers can standardize on one vendor. In the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026, a global telecom leader signed a $126 million agreement to expand its next-generation firewall footprint while replacing legacy proxy providers with Prisma Access for SASE, and agentic traffic on the company's SASE platform has increased 9x over the past nine months. Rival Fortinet said its SASE Firewall business grew 34% in the second quarter of 2026 to more than $2 billion, while Unified SASE billings rose 35%, and Zscaler reported ARR up 25% year over year in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026. Palo Alto Networks shares have jumped 104.1% year to date versus a 92.6% gain for the Zacks Security industry, and the stock trades at a forward price-to-sales ratio of 21.31X against an industry average of 19.13X.

Fastly Posts 23% Revenue Growth as Security Sales Jump 43%
Fastly reported quarterly revenue of $183 million, up 23% year over year, with security revenue climbing 43% and delivery services revenue rising 17%, CFO Rich Wong said at a Piper Sandler conference. Remaining performance obligations increased 38% year over year, and the current portion of RPO rose 44%, which Wong attributed to stronger customer commitments amid component shortages. Wong credited the security growth to an expanded portfolio that now spans five security products, up from a single web application firewall, and to improved sales execution under Scott Lovett, who joined as head of sales in mid-2024. Bot management and DDoS protection each posted triple-digit year-over-year growth, and net retention reached a four-year high of 117%. Fastly also said it will hold an investor day at Nasdaq MarketSite in New York to discuss a longer-term operating model and its outlook over the next three years, though it does not plan to provide fiscal 2027 guidance at the event.

Cloudbrink Launches OnGuard to Consolidate Enterprise Security Stack
Cloudbrink introduced OnGuard technology that extends a single Cloudbrink security and connectivity policy across users, devices and machines, taking aim at complex multi-product enterprise security stacks. The expanded platform gives enterprises an alternative to deploying and managing separate Cisco products for secure access, internet security, AI security and remote connectivity, consolidating ZTNA, Internet Security, Secure Web Gateway and AI security into one offering. OnGuard allows policy enforcement to begin when a device itself comes online, even before a user logs in, and to continue independently of the user session, with features including instant OnGuard availability, admin authorization, admin session termination, centralized visibility and selective policy control. CEO Prakash Mana said a single Cloudbrink platform can eliminate a significant portion of the Cisco secure-access stack, arguing that Umbrella, AnyConnect, Secure Access and AI Defense still force enterprises to manage multiple technologies, policies and operating models. The expansion builds on existing deployments, including at one U.S. insurance company where Cloudbrink replaced an environment that included Cisco AnyConnect and Fortinet, moving 300 employees on the first day and more than 600 during the first week, after which remote-connectivity support calls "pretty much disappeared," according to its VP of IT.

Fortinet Opens US$60 Million New York Innovation Hub
Fortinet has opened a new company-owned Innovation Hub in New York City, a 40,000 square foot facility valued at US$60 million that expands its U.S. footprint. The site houses advanced cybersecurity training labs, executive briefing spaces, hands-on technology demonstration areas, and a dedicated Fortinet Cloud point of presence, along with energy-efficient infrastructure aligned with the group's ESG priorities. Fortinet said the hub concentrates its experts, training and a Fortinet Cloud PoP in a single venue, supporting its push toward more software, subscription and services revenue. The company added that the larger executive briefing and demo footprint in a financial hub gives it more surface area to pitch platform-wide deals rather than single products. Fortinet noted the expansion adds to its global data center and PoP footprint while helping its integrated Security Fabric story, though it cautioned that higher fixed costs only work if SASE, cloud and large enterprise wins scale fast enough to offset earlier margin pressure.

Zscaler reported fourth-quarter revenue up 25% year over year to $898.2 million, with ARR rising 25% to $3.77 billion, though organic ARR excluding Red Canary's $141 million contribution grew 20% to $3.63 billion. FBN Securities reiterated an Outperform rating on September 4 and raised its price target to $190 from $175, citing improving underlying momentum. Non-GAAP operating margin hit a record 24% in the quarter, while GAAP net loss per diluted share narrowed to $0.02 from $0.11 a year earlier. For the first quarter of fiscal 2027, Zscaler guided revenue to $935 million to $939 million, up 19% year over year, with a non-GAAP gross margin of about 80%. However, the company's fiscal 2027 ARR guidance of $4.396 billion to $4.426 billion implies growth of only 16.6% to 17.4%, raising concerns that Zscaler could shift from a 25% growth cybersecurity company to a high-teens grower and face multiple compression amid competition from Palo Alto Networks and CrowdStrike.
F5 Launches New AI Security Tools as Shares Trade Near Fair Value
F5 is expanding deeper into application and AI security with new Distributed Cloud Bot Defense features and Workforce AI Security, tools designed to monitor devices, score risk in real time, and govern AI-driven activity. The launch comes as F5 shares have climbed 4.71% over one day and 10.59% over seven days, with a year-to-date share price return of 67.90% against a one-year total shareholder return of 33.10%. F5 last closed at $430.88, just below the most widely followed fair value estimate of $436.10, which uses an 8.81% discount rate, leaving only a thin valuation cushion. The stock trades at a P/E of 33.6x, above the US Communications sector at 33.2x and above an estimated fair ratio of 27.8x. Early deployments of F5's AI-focused offerings, including AI data delivery, AI gateway, and runtime security, along with partnerships with NVIDIA BlueField-3 and MinIO, are establishing new insertion points for the business, though the bullish narrative could appear stretched if hardware-heavy demand persists or hyperscalers keep more security and delivery in house.

Nokia Supplies 800G Optics to Telxius and DDoS Defense to ESpanix
Nokia Oyj is supplying 800G coherent pluggable optics to Telxius as the company upgrades the international terrestrial transport networks connecting its subsea cables, while ESpanix in Spain is deploying Nokia Deepfield Defender to power a new DDoS protection service for internet exchange customers. The two deployments are separate pieces of Nokia's broader telecom and security business rather than a single combined contract. Telxius plans to use Nokia optical technology to scale bandwidth and capacity on routes supporting its global subsea infrastructure. Nokia's profit margin stands at 3.4%, down from 5% a year earlier, leaving investors watching whether heavier AI and security workloads convert into higher quality earnings. The key marker over the next 12 to 24 months is the number of clearly disclosed commercial deals citing these 800G and Deepfield deployments as live, scaled services across Europe, the United States and Latin America.

SE Labs Launches First Public PIVOT Security Test With Five Major Vendors
SE Labs announced the first public evaluation under PIVOT, its advanced security testing programme, with Broadcom, CrowdStrike, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks and Sophos confirmed to take part. Results will be published in early 2027 and will include a comparative analysis of the participating products, detailed findings from the attack scenarios and SE Labs' inaugural public PIVOT Rankings. The evaluation arrives as several major vendors have stepped away from MITRE Engenuity ATT&CK Evaluations, reducing the number of leading products assessed through what had been one of the industry's most prominent common sources of technical evaluation data. PIVOT follows complete attack chains to show what happened during an attack, how far an attacker progressed, what defenders could see and understand, and how those outcomes compare across competing products, rather than stopping at evidence of what a product detected. Simon Edwards, CEO and founder of SE Labs, said the underlying evidence will be made available to Gartner and Forrester so their analysts can examine it and add their own independent interpretation.
